Kate Adair at TransForum meeting

TransForum Manchester is a discussion group and peer support forum for all Transgender people and those in any way questioning their gender. You will be welcomed as an individual or together with your partners, family, friends. We meet in a Safe and Comfortable Space in The LGBT Foundation building once a month on Saturday afternoons at 3:30pm. We also work in partnership on projects and events with Manchester Concorde and The LGBT Foundation (LGBTF).

Who are welcome

We welcome transsexual women, transsexual men, Transvestites and many other gender variant people including androgynous, gender-queer, non-binary, gender diverse, gender questioning, cross-dressing & inter-sex people. Although we welcome and embrace a diverse community our main audience is Male to Female Transsexuals and Transvestites and those in-between Male and Female.

What we do

Our Group has a wealth of personal experience and helpful contacts within the local community, local government, the police, the health and the caring professions. We also have social outings for our members to promote affirmation in their preferred gender presentation and to build confidence in public spaces.

We are actively involved in many other events and aim to promote Trans Awareness and Equality & Human Rights to support our commmunity. Such events include Sparkle,and Manchester & Oldham Prides.

Although based in Manchester we have members who travel from all over the North West and beyond. So come and visit a welcoming and friendly group, share your experiences, and join in our discussions, chats and refreshments.

When we meet

All TransForum Manchester meetings are held from 3.30 to 7.00 pm at: 

The LGBT Foundation, 2nd Floor, No.5 Richmond Street, Manchester, M1 3HF.

Situated in the heart of Manchester's Gay Village behind Canal St we are approx 5-10 minutes’ walk from either Piccadilly or Oxford Road Main Line Railway Stations, and Piccadilly Gardens Bus and Tram stations. The building It is accessible by lift or by the Stairs. The Entry intercom is to the right of the door. Press the intercom button for The LGBT Foundation to gain access by speaking to Reception and saying you are attending the TransForum Meeting.

CONSTITUTION OF TRANSFORUM - MANCHESTER

(TRANS-DISCUSSION GROUP)
Adopted on the twenty first day of May 2011
1. Name
The name of the Association is TRANSFORUM MANCHESTER, referred to hereinafter as “the Association”.
2. Administration
Subject to the matters set out below the Association and its property shall be administered and managed in accordance with this constitution by the members of the Executive Committee, constituted by clause 7 of this constitution (“the Executive Committee”).
3. Objectives
The Association’s prime aims (“the Objectives”) are educational by undertaking the following within the area of Manchester, North West England and beyond as resources allow:
3.1 to provide a safe discussion and information sharing forum for all members to express and
explore their gender identity;
3.2 to welcome all those affected by gender dysphoria related to transgenderism, transvestism, transsexualism, gender queer, FTM (female-to-male), MTF (male-to-female) as well as other variations of gender identity within our diverse community; and those who live with any intersex condition or gender variance difficulty; also partners, close family members (over 18) and supporters, and all those wishing to gain knowledge about this condition and the transgender community;
3.3 to provide, where compatible with Objective 'a', social & mutual support and self help to all members;
3.4 to advance public education about all the aspects of gender dysphoria / gender diversity related to transgenderism, transsexualism, transvestism or intersex conditions; and promote acceptance of all transgender, gender variant or intersexed people;
3.5 to work with the police and other bodies to address the issues of transphobic hate crime through education, facilitating the reporting of such crime(s) information on crime prevention and signposting sources of support for those suffering such crime(s);
3.6 to provide a safe meeting space in the Manchester area for the trans and gender variant community, in all its diversity;
3.7 to maintain close links with all groups and services relevant to our aims and to involve these groups and supportive organisations, including public sector bodies, in the work of the Association;
3.8 to keep confidential all personal information about group members and confidential discussions.

This Group is for all those identifying as Trans & all those interested in supporting and understanding those who breach the socially set Gender Norms. It was formerly MCC Manchester Trans Discussion Group, and usually meets once a month usually on a Saturday.

Our aim is to help promote the life skills Transgender people need to interact socially in their own appropriate gender, and where appropriate provide information; signposting to help them live in their acquired gender. We also aim to give the wider community an insight into the rainbow of Transgender identity.
